A starter is read aloud by the teacher. Students can buzz in at any point once they think they know the answer, and the first student or team to buzz gets the chance to answer.
“This country fought the Winter War against the Soviet Union. It shares borders with Norway and Sweden. What country has Helsinki as its capital?”
A correct answer scores points and earns a bonus. If the answer is wrong, the starter passes to the other team or teams.

Bonuses are follow-up questions linked to the starter. They are read only to the team that answered the starter correctly.
A shared challenge
A starter might lead to three bonus questions on the same subject. The team can discuss each one together before giving its answer.
That is the key feature of the format: students test their individual knowledge on starters, then work together to solve the bonuses.
